Outlines over Rs. 25 crores in investments; Inks deal with Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for biomass gasification technology
Bangalore, September 14, 2006: SunTechnics, one of the world's largest system integrator for renewable energies and the flagship company of the Conergy Group, today formally announced its successful market-entry in India. The first assembly facility of SunTechnics Energy Systems Pvt. Ltd., the Indian wholly owned subsidiary, has already been set up in Bangalore. The company has already invested over Rs. 12 crores in its Indian subsidiary and has committed investments to the amount of Rs. 25 crores. This includes the initial investment over the next year. Presently, there are 40 employees working in Bangalore and in regional sales offices. By year-end, SunTechnics wants to set up additional offices all over India and wants to increase the workforce to over 100 employees in the region including sales, engineering and marketing.
Announcing the Indian market-entry, Hans-Martin Rueter, founder of SunTechnics and CEO of the holding company Conergy, said: "The recently proposed commitment of the Indian government to generate 10% of all electricity through renewable energy technologies by 2012 means that the Indian market for renewable energy is set to grow enormously. With our early investment in our offices across India, and with staff who are among the pioneers in the industry, we are in the pole position to highly profit from this growth potential. The mandate to the Indian operations is to scale exponentially in the coming years and be a global growth driver for the entire Conergy Group."
Announcing the global licensing deal with the Indian Institute of Science Institution (IISc), Stefan Mueller, Head of the Asia-Pacific region of SunTechnics, said: "SunTechnics sees in India huge potential in the field of electricity generation by bioenergy. The cooperation in the field of biomass gasification technology between SunTechnics and the IISc is, of course, of strategic importance for us. Besides, we found the technology can be relevant in other parts of the world including Europe. SunTechnics will work on a plant solution based on this technology which it can sell to its customers worldwide. We are quite excited by this reverse technology transfer."
"We focus on the customer's needs and deliver a solution comprised of any of the renewable energy sources or even a hybrid one, which is a combination of two ore more sources. With our expertise and vast array of solutions of world class quality we have all the tools to meet the customer's demand. This enables us to better address a much wider market - from small kilowatt systems to large scale megawatt projects", explains Rajesh Bhat, Director and Country Manager of SunTechnics India, the strength of SunTechnics.
Various projects underline the already successful market entry of SunTechnics in India: SunTechnics is presently installing several photovoltaic systems for CREDA (Chhattisgarh Renewable Energy Development Agency) each with a capacity of up to six kilowatts. For WEBREDA (West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency) SunTechnics is realising photovoltaic projects with a total capacity of 58 kilowatts that are integrated into buildings. Also in Northern India, the installation of photovoltaic-wind-hybrid plants with a total capacity of 50 kilowatts is presently being planned and realised by SunTechnics engineers. In June of this year, SunTechnics successfully started running two biogas-powered electricity generation facilities in Kerala.
