Bangalore, 10th Oct, 2006 -- Tata Elxsi, the embedded Product Design arm of the Tata Group and DiBcom, the pioneers and world leaders in the Mobile TV chipsets, have announced a partnership to help their customers in realizing innovative mobile TV Products with faster time to market.
Tata Elxsi has developed a full DVB-H stack, compliant with the DVB-CBMS specifications. The software is OS agnostic and independent of the base band processing sublayer. It features an intuitive API layer, allowing easy and quick integration with various multimedia engines, decoders and applications, while a seamless abstraction layer provides for integration with different CA modules.
The software stack has been fully integrated with DiBcom's DiB7000 Chipset, the world's first chip capable of de-modulating both Digital Video Broadcasting - Handheld (DVB-H) and Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial (DVB-T) transmissions.
Coupled with a rich portfolio of IP such as IPTV and STB middleware, media player framework, audio / video codecs such as H.264 and MPEG4, and proven product design expertise, Tata Elxsi provides a one-stop solution for product companies wanting to develop innovative DVB-H based products and solutions based on DiBcom chipsets, getting them to market faster, without having to deal with multiple IP vendors.
At IBC 2006 - Amsterdam, Tata Elxsi featured a unique product reference solution, the HandyDVR - a portable mobile TV DVR based on DiBcom's DIB7000 digital TV chip. The HandyDVR is a small form factor device that can connect via USB to enable mobile TV reception on laptops. It provides unique features such as a PVR with ESG for scheduled recording even in a stand-alone mode, and one channel recording and one channel play while connected to the laptop. This incorporates the DiBcom's DVB-H chipset and Tata Elxsi\'s scalable and portable DVB-CBMS compliant stack, providing a very compact, low-power reference design. Featuring the Tata Elxsi DVB-H stack, it has been tested and its good performance for reception assessed at the premises of TDF, France and undergone extensive and successful field trials including in-car reception, in multiple cities across Europe including Berlin and Paris.
"At Tata Elxsi, we understand manufacturers' needs for deploying products quickly to meet the demands of emerging markets, like mobile TV. DiBcom is a pioneer and world leader in the mobile TV space, with their chipsets enabling a wide variety of portable products. Tata Elxsi's DVB-H software is fully integrated with DiBcom chipsets, and with the scale and expertise of Tata Elxsi's product engineering team, we are uniquely positioned as a reliable partner for Mobile TV related development for applications in Consumer, Enterprise and Automotive markets" said Mr. Madhukar Dev, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Elxsi Limited.
"Our collaboration with Tata Elxsi, based on our first generation of DVB-H chips, allowed us to demonstrate the usability of DVB-H technology and applications outside the handset world. This first success will encourage the two companies to increase their collaboration around mobile TV projects. Using the new DiBcom DIB 7070 Single chip, containing 3 bands tuner combined with a demodulator, will allow this collaboration to move to a higher level. The DIB 7070 is the world's first "proven performance" and full "MBRAI" compliant single chip solution" said Mr. Yannick Levy, CEO of DiBcom, who adds "This first partnership strengthens our engagement to support and to collaborate with one of key companies in India, to open DVB-H to this huge and global market".
