Press Release Body = Bangalore, November 7th, 2006 Delivering on its plan to increase market share in Small and Midsize Enterprises (SME) in Singapore, Malaysia and India, Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, provider of Application Optimized Storage solutions and a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT), today announced that it has entered into a distribution agreement with Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE: IM), the world\'s largest technology distributor, in these markets.
According to analyst group, Access Markets International (AMI) Partners, SMEs in India are on track to cross US$70 million on data storage solutions this year, the bulk of it on DAS (direct attached storage). DAS has traditionally been the default choice among Indias SMBs. The ballooning number of network users, as well as the speed, capacity and plummeting prices offered by network storage, will also make it the preferred storage solution over the next few years, especially among SMEs. AMI defines SMEs as commercial companies with 1-999 employees.
Like enterprises, SMEs have the requirement of high availability, long retention or scalable volume of data storage because of an increased focus on compliance and corporate governance. In addition, many organizations operate 24x7 and have remote offices that require backup. Critical business applications are also consuming more and more storage. At the same time, SMEs are looking at ways to maximize IT human resource, looking for easy to managed solutions that is ideally managed from an application.
Under the agreement, Ingram Micro will offer the following Hitachi solutions which will help reduce the complexity in purchasing, installing and managing storage solutions for SMEs.
