Press Release Body = Hyderabad, India, November 15, 2006: Spirit Media - group company of Suresh Productions and part of Ramanaidu Studios one of India's finest film studios has announced integration of the ARRISCAN film scanner into their Digital Intermediate (DI) workflow, in its state-of-the-art facility in Hyderabad. The ARRISCAN technology will enable Spirit to offer world-class digital intermediate solution for the Indian film industry.
Spirit Media has recently set up the DI Lab and today is the only facility in India to own the state-of-art ARRISCAN. The ARRISCAN enables digital laboratories and postproduction houses to drastically increase their productivity and experience a new standard of quality in film scanning. Due to its innovative design, the ARRISCAN is suited for almost any scanning application including Digital Intermediate, visual effects, restoration and archival. The ARRISCAN uses a two dimensional CMOS area array to sample the film in a fixed position as opposed to a moving line array used by other scanners. This significantly improves signal to noise and dynamic range. Illumination comes from a precisely tuned LED light source, which vastly improves the color response, lowers illuminant induced heating of the film, and provides a new level of stability.
Mr. Rana Daggubati, Managing Director, Spirit, said, "Spirit has made rapid inroads into the domestic entertainment industry and is now emerging as strong global contenders as it represents the coming of age of Indian cinema on a dynamic technology-centric-IT platform. The introduction of ARRISCAN represents the advent of new generation scanning technology to our country."
Spirit Media has also roped in Senior Digital Colorist, Florian Martin "Utsi" for the Digital Intermediate (DI) for the forthcoming mega telugu feature film "Sainikudu", starring Mahesh Babu, Trisha, directed by Gunashekhar, and produced by Ashwini Dutt. "Utsi" has graded on the Lustre system for over 5 years and has graded over 8 full-length feature films apart from many other shows. "Utsi's" credits include \"Perfume", "Story of a Murderer\" and all the three \"Lord of the Rings\" films.
Mr. Rana Daggubati, Managing Director, Spirit, said, "By bringing Florian we will expand our DI capability and strengthen our digital color-grading competency. "Utsi" carries a thorough knowledge in digital color grading, organizing and managing large, data-intensive projects. He also has an extensive experience in coordinating a team in a deadline driven environment."
"Florian's proficiency in the process of transferring film into digital and vice versa and the professional color management involved has drawn wide acclaim in Hollywood. The most noted work of "Utsi" is "Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring", on which he digitally grading over 45 minutes; work that includes scene-based color grading, creation of various promist and glow effects for different elf looks, programming a FileMaker based database to track all i/o traffic including all shots, filmouts and tapes", said Rana.
Digital color grading is the biggest thing to hit the motion picture industry of recent times. The colorist and DP have the creative freedom to explore completely new looks and styles that were never achievable before.
Spirit's service offerings range from Film Production, Film Labs, Studio services, Audio post, Digital post, Film distribution & Exhibition, Film Restoration & Colorization, Visual effects & Animation, to Gaming & Interactive Media.
