Nation`s Oldest Latino Inter-Collegiate Fraternity Celebrates 75 years

Press Release Body = New York City, New York- December, 2006-On December 26, 2006 Phi Iota Alpha, the Oldest Latino Fraternity in existence, will be celebrating it's 75th Anniversary. Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is the oldest intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity, established for Latino Americans in the United States. It was founded December 26, 1931 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.
To commemorate this event, hundreds of undergraduate and alumni members will converge at 7pm on December 26, 2006 at Simon Bolivar Plaza Central Park in New York City. The plaza is located at 59th street and Avenue of the Americas. Here, in the presence of three of the organization's historical pillars, Simon Bolivar, Jose Marti and Jose de San Martin, members will congregate to celebrate this special occasion.
In addition to prepared remarks by the fraternity's members, the fraternity will be presented with a Citation and Proclamation from the New York City Council. The Citation and Proclamation sponsored by Council Member Annabel Palma and Council Member Miguel Martinez recognizes Phi Iota Alpha for its 75 years of service to the community.
### Phi Iota Alpha ignited the Latino Greek movement, with its establishment in 1931. Through the past 75 years, Phi Iota Alpha has cultivated and inspired Latino men nationwide to become leaders of their communities across Latin America and the United States. Open to all men, the distinguished brotherhood includes many professionals, and former presidents of Latin American countries. Today Phi Iota Alpha, the Oldest Latino Fraternity in existence, continues to lead as the preeminent Latino fraternal organization with chapters throughout the United States.
