Now Mainframe Application Developers Can Achieve Process and Issue Management Via Web Browsers to Control Change Across the Enterprise
Bangalore, December 13th, 2006 - Serena Software, Inc., the Change GovernanceT leader, today announced a newly upgraded integration between its best-of-breed solutions for mainframe application development and Web-based process control and enforcement. This new integration between Serena® ChangeMan® ZMF 5.6 and Serena TeamTrack® 6.6 allows users to improve the quality, predictability, and control of the software development process, reduce risks and costs through more efficient process management, and create an audit trail for easier regulatory compliance.
Companies are increasingly working in heterogeneous environments and, until now, lacked visibility between their mainframe and distributed application development environments. By integrating mainframe and distributed application lifecycle management, Serena customers can visualize the impact of changes before they take place, orchestrate the optimal implementation of those changes, and enforce best practice lifecycle processes across all development activities, regardless of platform or location.
"This integration between ChangeMan ZMF and TeamTrack is yet another example of Serena's commitment to fostering innovation in the mainframe arena and delivering solutions that efficiently, consistently, and successfully control change across the enterprise," said Matt DiMaria, senior vice president of marketing, Serena. "Our 25 years of mainframe experience make Serena uniquely qualified to help enterprises integrate and automate change processes, bridge silos of change across their organizations, and, ultimately, transform change into strategic business advantage in the face of increased regulatory demands, competitive pressures and globalization."
ChangeMan ZMF 5.6 is Serena's comprehensive and fully integrated solution for software change management on the mainframe. Serena TeamTrack 6.6 is the latest version of Serena's secure and highly configurable process and issue management solution that maps, tracks, and enforces business processes down to the task level. Together, these solutions provide visibility into the entire application development landscape, keeping everyone on the path to better software, improved business practices, increased profitability, and competitive advantages.
Enhancements to this new interface include:
. Better collaboration and project quality - This new interface provides the ability to execute a corresponding transition in TeamTrack upon ZMF promotion for better collaboration between mainframe developers and counterparts in other parts of the organization, such as developers on distributed systems and operations specialists, resulting in better project quality. Plus, non-technical personnel (in management, for example) now have greater visibility into their mainframe application development projects.
. Reduced costs and risk - With tighter integration between ChangeMan ZMF and TeamTrack, package creation is faster and simpler than ever before, while ensuring that standard processes are enforced across the enterprise to lower risk and reduce costs. Customers now have the ability to create packages in ZMF and have an item automatically generated in TeamTrack that is linked to that ZMF package. The integration now coordinates promotion events between ChangeMan ZMF and TeamTrack. When ZMF receives a promotion request, ZMF informs TeamTrack of the request and information about the promotion is passed to TeamTrack, including current promotion level, target promotion level, and highest promotion level.
. Open standards for better adaptability and integrations - The new interface has adopted standards defined in the Eclipse Application Lifecycle Framework (ALF) project to notify ALF of important events within the application lifecycle. With this new version ZMF can inform ALF of process results from the ZMF lifecycle such as package audit, freeze, and promotion. By adopting ALF eventing standards, Serena is demonstrating commitment to open standards that allow customers and partners to integrate the myriad tools so often present in ALM organizations.
