Press Release Body = KANSAS CITY, MO. - MARCH 23, 2007 - Companies are asking lawmakers to soften rules and regulations that emerged in the wake of the nefarious 2002 corporate scandals. But public companies and the accounting firms that serve them won't likely have a green light to dispose of their records - paper or electronic - any time soon.
Warren Buffet, Charles Schwab and Alan Greenspan are among the panelists that heard business concerns over issues such as Sarbanes-Oxley legislation and the liability of accounting firms in litigation over public company audits in March. However, Wall Street powerhouse Goldman Sachs came out against the notion that regulations hurt the nation's ability to compete on global markets. And so the debate rages on.
"As discussion continues over how legislation that requires corporations to store documents impacts competitiveness, portable storage operators continue to supply much-need containerization to accommodate the demands of the law," said John Finnessy, CMP, Executive Director of the National Portable Storage Association, or NPSA, a nonprofit membership association dedicated to the advancement of the portable storage industry.
Storing mountains of paper work in high rent offices can be cost prohibitive, and there is no immediate change in the laws in sight. But portable storage can offer a secure environment for long-term document storage at a fraction of the cost of setting aside office space for the documents and electronic files.
Indeed, with dwindling on-site storage space, financial institutions, utility companies, insurance and film production companies, among others, are looking to portable storage to fill the void for document storage needs. Much the same, medical facilities, military and government agencies, Native American reservations and academic institutions are tapping into portable storage for their unique document storage needs.
"Our members have been serving business, academia, healthcare and government for decades and remain prepared to meet the records storage needs in any regulatory climate," said NPSA Operations Manager Joel Rathbone. "Whether paper files or electronic formats, portable containerized storage offers a safe, secure, climate-controlled solution that makes records storage convenient."
