Focus Radio is launching a new course for Churches, home groups, cell groups, and individual Christians to understand how TV influences us and how we can respond positively.
Press Release Body = Research shows that in the western world we spend twelve years of our lives watching television, on average. By the age of six, a child has already spent one whole year in front of the TV.
Television has been implicated in a wide range of child health and development issues - it may be a bigger factor in obesity than either diet or exercise. It is also implicated in half of all violent crime. These are not the views of cranks or crackpots - they are the results of serious social research. One major study in the Journal of the American Medical Association concluded that 'If. television technology had never been developed, there would today be 10,000 fewer homicides each year in the United States, 70,000 fewer rapes, and 700,000 fewer injurious assaults. Violent crime would be half of what it is.'
The psychologist Aric Sigman says that television 'has unleashed a worldwide cultural force equalled in history only by religion.'
\'Facing the Challenge of Television\' is a new course for Churches, adult Sunday Schools, home groups, cell groups, and individual Christians, from Focus Radio. In eight fifty minute sessions, it explores how television creates our world and steals our lives; how it causes \'Truth Decay,\' and distorts reality. It looks at television negatively as junk food for our souls and pollution for our imagination. It also looks at TV positively as providing fuel for our prayers and points of contact for sharing the Good News.
For a limited time only, it is available for the special introductory price of £9.99. This includes the Leaders\' Guide and worksheet masters for group members.
You can also \'try before you buy\' by downloading a sample session from www.facingthechallenge.org/stealing.pdf.
