Actual Window Manager 4.4 is a must-have for users of Remote Desktop/Terminal Services!
Actual Tools today announces the release of Actual Window Manager 4.4, a popular desktop enhancement suite, now featuring Remote Desktop/Terminal Services capabilities. With the evolution of the Remote Desktop service in the latest versions of Windows, their popularity is on the rise, both among home users and corporate network administrators. However for all the advantages, the use of Remote Desktop access presents users with some challenges that newly released Actual Window Manager promises to meet.
It's typical that the size of the desktop when working remotely is considerably smaller than usual. This is done purposefully to reduce broadcast images and save traffic. Besides, many applications "remember" the position and size of their windows on closing and when windows are opened again on smaller desktop, users have to resize such windows to make them smaller and position them in the convenient order again - all manually. Some windows may even jump out of the visible area of the desktop. Similar problems appear when users switch from the lower resolution to the higher one, but this time it's necessary to make windows larger.
Fortunately, Actual Window Manager 4.4 will help you tackle such problems in several ways.
. The latest version has introduced a new "Automatically keep windows layout" mode, in which Actual Window Manager will track all the changes of the desktop size and automatically adjust the size and position of all currently open windows, saving their sizes and placement relatively to each other and the desktop.
. The "Restrict placement" option will help you prevent windows from jumping out of the visible area of the desktop. Once the option is enabled, users can set up a frame on the desktop, within which windows will be placed. Inside the frame, windows can be freely moved and resized, but Actual Window Manager will track the changes in the size and position of windows and won't let windows go beyond the specified frame area. If a window goes out of the set area on opening, it'll get taken to it automatically.
. For frequently used windows, users can specify the size and position in percents for automatic setup relatively to the current size of the desktop, which will ensure the identical representation of the window, regardless of the size of the desktop.
. Another peculiarity typical for workplaces in call centers, network operation centers and stock exchanges appears on connecting to the remote server from the workstation that controls several connected monitors. In this case, the server doesn't know that physically the client has several monitors and "thinks" that it has one large monitor displaying the desktop. Some applications automatically place their windows (such as query dialogs, message boxes) in the center of the desktop. In this case, such a window gets split between monitors, hindering users from normal work. To fix this problem, Actual Window Manager 4.4 offers users a "Relocate split windows" option to automatically detect such windows and move them to the specified place on the desktop, making work more predictable, comfortable and efficient. The above mentioned options for automatic positioning and sizing of windows relatively to the desktop will let users more effectively utilize the given workspace, displaying particular windows fully on specific monitors.
Remote Desktop will considerably increase the efficiency of utilizing the computational resources. Actual Window Manager 4.4 will increase the effectiveness of the remote access itself, relieving users from a number of inconveniences and routine operations, making the behavior of windows more predictable.
