Press Release Summary = MEF Compliant Solution Enables New Service Revenue from Carrier Ethernet Delivery
Press Release Body = HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- (May 31, 2007)--ADTRAN, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADTN), a leading supplier of network access equipment, today announced two new additions to its Ethernet in the First Mile over Copper (EFMC) portfolio. The Total Access® 838 is the first offering of the Total Access 800 Series Network Termination Units (NTUs). These MEF- certified devices are designed to equip carriers with the tools that provide feature-rich Ethernet service delivery over existing copper infrastructure. When combined with ADTRAN's Total Access 3000 DSLAM, the Total Access 800 Series NTU provides carriers with a cost-effective end-to-end solution allowing them to provide up to 45 Mbps Ethernet services to their customers over copper pairs with minimal changes in infrastructure and maximum improvement in operations.
The Iometrix test laboratory has certified that the products in ADTRAN's Ethernet in the First Mile over Copper solution set, the Total Access 3000 DSLAM, Total Access 800 Series of NTUs, and MX3112 NTUs, are compliant with Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) 9 and 14 specifications for the delivery and management of Ethernet Virtual Private Line and Ethernet Private Line services. Carriers can now ubiquitously deploy these certified solutions and be assured that they are offering high-bandwidth Ethernet services with carrier-grade quality and reliability.
"ADTRAN is committed to supporting carriers in delivering differentiated high-bandwidth Ethernet services. This solution, which also offers 802.3ah OAM, provides improvements in bandwidth and reliability required by Metro Ethernet services," said Eric Vallone, director of product management, ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division. "The Total Access 3000 with EFMC capability combined with the Total Access 838 has been designed to support a broad range of applications, including DSLAM and mobile backhaul."
"Carriers are looking for ways to expand uses of their existing infrastructure investments to drive new revenue and Ethernet over Copper is a natural," said Michael Howard, principal analyst and co-founder, Infonetics Research. "These additions complement ADTRAN's current Total Access product set with EFMC-standard features so that carriers can extend the life of their copper plant as well as the millions of dollars of DSLAMs they already have installed in their networks. ADTRAN has added a new revenue generating capability to the existing installed base of Total Access 3000 DSLAMs."
ADTRAN's continued commitment to the migration from circuit to packet through EFMC implementation provides carriers the means to host multiple bonded circuits and aggregate these circuits more efficiently into a single element, thus reducing network complexity and operational expense. The results include increased overall network efficiency, simplified network support, leverage of existing systems, and reduction in overall costs for carriers and their subscribers.
