Press Release Summary = British youngsters expect to be in a position to purchase their own properties by their 30th birthday, it has been revealed.
Press Release Body = A survey by Alliance & Leicester (A&L) found 81 per cent of current 16 to 21 year-olds who have left school to pursue full-time employment expect to own their own home by the age of 30, while 32 per cent believe they will be debt-free by the time they are 35.
While this optimism is commendable, its foundations appear to be shaky, as it is based on the assumption of 24 per cent of the group that they will be earning at least twice the average UK salary within the next ten years.
It is likely, therefore, that should members of this group manage to climb onto the first rung of the property ladder they will be financially overstretched - just as the current crop of first time buyers are today, which has led to a rise in the number of repossessions.
However, school leavers who opt to work rather than go to university appear to be in a better position financially than their student counterparts - figures released by the National Union of Students show the average cost of a degree is now almost £20,000, while 90 per cent of students are reportedly in debt.
UK fast purchase property firm National Homebuyers says education does not meet the needs of society. Director Julian King says: \"I would be hugely offended if I thought my children could leave 18 years of education with a sound understanding of sociology but have no real understanding of how to make their way in the world.
\"The reality is, only the current slowdown in the property market or a cheque from Daddy will allow today\'s students to get on the property ladder. We already see eight-times income mortgage arrangements. This will ultimately be disastrous.\"
National Homebuyers is the UK\'s leading fast property purchase firm, guaranteeing to make an offer to purchase any property in any condition. The business throws a life-life to owners who are struggling in the current financial climate.
