Press Release Summary: Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman, who will be honored at the Aleh Foundation's upcoming 2007 Annual Awards Dinner in Manhattan on November 15th, will take the opportunity to pay tribute to the memory one of Aleh's staunchest friends: his mother Marcia Lieberman. Both the senator and his late mother have been longtime supporters of Aleh, Israel's network of residential facilities for children with severe physical and cognitive disabilities, which cares for more than 650 children in four branches across Israel.
Press Release Body: Senator Lieberman, who serves as an honorary board member of the Aleh Foundation, will share the spotlight at the Aleh Awards Dinner with another of the organization's heroes, Israeli Maj. Gen. Doron Almog. The general, who led the daring Entebbe rescue in 1976 and headed the IDF Southern Command, will pay tribute to the memory of his severely disabled son Eran, who was the moving force behind the establishment of "Aleh Negev." Completing "Aleh Negev," a revolutionary, state-of-the-art residential village in Israel's Negev for more than 8000 physically and mentally impaired children and young adults, is the goal of the Aleh dinner. The 25-acre Rehabilitative Village --the first of its kind in Israel -is designed specifically to care for people with severe developmental disabilities. Plans call for the complex to house 250 disabled young residents and provide outpatient care and services to an additional 8000 children annually. Thanks to generous support from the Aleh Foundation, the first stage of construction was completed last summer, with 65 children already living in the Village. The Dinner, which will be held in the Grand Ballroom of the Gotham, marks the fourth annual event of the Aleh Foundation on behalf of the Aleh Negev Rehabilitative Village. With over three million dollars raised to date, this year\'s goal is to bring in over $1.25 million dollars for this vital facility for Israel\'s handicapped. Joining honorees Senator Lieberman and Maj. Gen. Almog at the gala dinner will be Israeli Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger, who will deliver a dedication in memory of Mrs. Marcia Lieberman. David Freidman and David Beyda are co-chairing the event. Honorary chairpersons Brian and Ilana Lipman are working to assist Aleh's children in honor of their daughter Ora, born blind and brain-damaged. The 2007 Aleh Patron of the Year Award will be presented to Dr. Alisa R. Kasachkoff, in tribute to her generosity and dedication to the Aleh Foundation.
