Press Release Summary: Tracient Technologies' handheld RFID readers are being used in an apparel stocktaking application in Singapore. SeeNow Pte Ltd, an RFID solutions provider, has collaborated with Tracient to deliver a comprehensive RFID solution for the apparel industry.
Press Release Body: Manual stocktaking of apparel is prevalent in Asia. It is a mundane and time consuming process that can only realistically be performed several times a year. RFID's accuracy and speed of data capture provides retailers with the ability to do stocktaking on a regular (weekly, if not daily) basis - something most retailers would like but can't afford. This prompted SeeNow to develop a solution combining their proprietary software Smart Shop with Tracient's Padl-R HF RFID reader.
In a trial earlier this year, each garment was tagged with an RFID HF tag. This was done by the retailer however in future trials this process will be performed by the manufacturer at the source of the supply chain. The garments were then scanned with Tracient's Padl-R HF reader, both in the stockroom and the shop floor. The tag information included a unique serial code that identified each individual item found in the client's inventory database. The tag information was then sent to the Smart Shop inventory management system via Bluetooth, enabling real-time stock visibility.
Moving from manual stocktaking to the Smart Shop system reduced stocktaking time from around 12 hours to 25 minutes, while achieving an accuracy of 99.9%. SeeNow says this massive reduction in labour time will allow stocktaking to occur daily, reduce shrinkage and improve the staff and customer experience. Most importantly, the initial trial indicates a payback period of less than one year.
Despite a range of available options, SeeNow chose Tracient's Padl-R HF reader for the following reasons: 1. Light weight, ergonomic design. At only 135 grams the reader can be used all day without fatigue or overuse injury. 2. Ease of use. The Padl-R is operated by a single read button; sending the data directly to the client's PC via Bluetooth. This means it can be used by low skilled shop employees with minimal training. 3. Wireless connectivity. The Bluetooth connection means the reader can be connected to the client's PC/ laptop at all times whilst performing the stocktake. 4. Rapid integration. Tracient's rich software suite enables SeeNow to integrate the readers with SeeNow's inventory management software with minimal programming.
SeeNow sees huge opportunities for RFID in the apparel sector and are currently introducing their Smart Shop system to thirteen retail stores in Singapore. They are also developing a logistics eco-system including the Smart Shop, Smart Mall and Smart SCM applications in order to link suppliers with retailers and customers.
SeeNow found working with Tracient a rewarding experience and Keton Lee, director of SeeNow, says "Tracient has been a good business partner to us, giving us tremendous support in our solution development. The Padl-R HF reader is so handy and mobile that most retailers find it ideal to deploy in their retail shops. This is certainly a tremendous plus point in enhancing our value proposition to our retail customers."
Tracient Technologies agree with SeeNow there are huge opportunities for RFID in the apparel sector. Tracient will be launching it's UHF reader in the same paddle form factor later this month and are looking to partner with systems integrators and solution providers in other parts of the world who are providing RFID solutions to apparel manufacturers and retailers.
