The City of Makati has a population of 524,000, according to the 2000 Census of Population conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO). This figure represents an increase of 39,824 or 8 per cent over the 1995 figure. Among cities and municipalities in Metro Manila, Makati ranks fifth in population, with a 5 percent share. In a span of 97 years, Makati\'s population grew 193 times. The 1903 Census placed the population at 2,700. Based on the 1995 Census of Population, the 20 barangays comprising Makati\'s First District have a combined population of 230,726, while the 13 barangays of the Second District have a combined population of 253,450. Barangay Pembo has the largest population, with 62,097 while the least populated barangay is Urdaneta with 3,575.
LOCATION
Makati is located within the quadrangle of 12° 011 latitude north and 14° 331 longitude. It is bounded on the north by the Pasig River facing the City of Mandaluyong, on the east by the Municipality of Pateros, on the northwest by the City of Manila, and on the south and southwest by the City of Pasay. It is one of the twelve (12) cities of the National Capital Region which also includes five (5) municipalities. LAND AREA Makati has a total land area of 27.36 square kilometers or 2,736 hectares, it constitutes 4.3 percent of NCR\'s total land area, and is bigger than neighboring cities of Pasay and Mandaluyong.
