Press Release Summary: Pioneering prostate cancer surgeon Arnon Krongrad, MD spoke up in a Podcast produced by The Prostate Net.
Press Release Body: Miami, October 25: Pioneering prostate cancer surgeon Arnon Krongrad, MD, has broken a long silence. Last week, in a Podcast produced by The Prostate Net, Dr. Krongrad, who helped usher in an age of laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, a minimally invasive prostate cancer surgery, spoke openly about what is important to patients with a new prostate cancer diagnosis.
"There is a lot of confusion out there," says Dr. Krongrad, "and patients do not understand fundamental terminology. The do not seem to understand, for example, that what is often referred to as robotic prostate surgery is actually not robotic surgery. Moreover, and much more to the point, they do not understand that robotic prostate surgery is actually laparoscopic prostate surgery: minimally invasive surgery."
"Patients who are bombarded by information focused on devices, including 'robots' such as the Lapman robot and the davinci robot, forget to ask questions that very directly determine their chances for success. The most important such question is this: who is my surgeon?"
