Press Release Body: Leading ferry operator Stena Line is offering families the chance to experience a Dutch Christmas this festive period, by combining a dose of European culture with the Christmas shopping in one stress-free family weekend.
Stena Line is encouraging families to take advantage of a relaxing overnight Friday ferry crossing in a comfortable family cabin to awake after a good night’s sleep on Saturday morning in Holland, ready to drive to an array of Christmas markets or experience the unique Sinterklaas festival.
By taking the ferry route from Harwich to the Hook of Holland, friends and families can escape the crowds in the high street this Christmas and visit the Dordrecht Christmas market, which is one of the biggest in Holland and just a short drive from the Hook of Holland in a small town near Rotterdam. Holidaymakers can wander through this open-air market along the historical streets and squares of Dordrecht and be entertained by live music, activities in and around the Great Church (Grote Kerk), and marvel at the stunning Christmas decorations.
One of the most spectacular Christmas events in Holland occurs at Valkenburg’s limestone caves. In the weeks leading up to Christmas these are transformed into glittering Christmas grottoes. Holidaymakers can sample an array of local foods such as oliebollen (Dutch doughnut) poffertjes (small pancakes) and try Glühwein, a hot, spiced wine whilst searching through the grottoes to find the perfect gifts for friends and family back home.
Holidaymakers can experience the festive celebrations and return with a car full of Dutch delights for Christmas Eve on December 24.
