Press Release Body: Recently (on 14th February) ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of
India along with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (an autonomous body under Min. of Youth
Affairs & Sports, Govt. of India) organised a Jammu & Kashmir Reciprocal Cultural
Youth Exchange Programme entitled \'Utsav-E-Hind\' at Satyagrah Mandap, Gandhi Smiriti
and Darshan Samiti, Rajghat, New Delhi. On this occasion Anil Kumar (Director, J&K
Div., Min. of Home Affairs, GOI), Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Khan (Director General, NYKS),
Meenakshi Natrajan (VC, NYKS), Prof. Imtiaz Ahmed, Vagnesh Jha, R.P. Bhardawaj and
many others were present there.
On this occasion a seminar and thematic discussion on \"Role of Youth in National
Unity\" was organized to sensitize these young impressionable minds by giving them
intellectual rationale and logical framework to the issues which affect youth and
their psyche. The objective of the programme was to thank the host families who had
hosted the youth participants of the J&K Exchange Programme. Also, to provide an
opportunity to visit the State to gather the first hand knowledge of the culture of
J&K State. Besides, it also provided the opportunity to the youth to visit different
places of cultural interest of J&K State. It will further provide an opportunity to
the participants to interact with the local communities, PRIs, and youth clubs/
mahila mandals affiliated with NYKS to understand and compare the socio- economic
and political scenario of the state. The ultimate objective is to strengthen the
bond of friendship and to spread the message of national integrity and peace among
young people irrespective caste, creed colors.
The youth from 12 districts namely Thiruavanthapuram (Kerala). Gangtok (Sikkim),
South Goa (Goa), Udaipur & Ajmer (Rajasthan), Kodagu (Karnataka), Puri (Orissa),
Silwasa (Dadra Nagar Haveli), East Khasi Hills (Meghalaya), Aurangabad
(Maharashtra), Lucknow (U.P.), Chattarpur (MP) which include 250 Male and 136 Female
reached Jammu from Ist February itself. After a brief training and acclimatization
session at Jammu they were taken for a home stay programme in various places of the
state. These participants were well received at J&K as reported. The various state
ministers namely Sh Jugal Kishore, Sh Mangat Ram Sharma (Health), Sh Mula Ram (Rural
Dev, & Panchayati Raj) and Sh Abdul G Vakil (Social Welfare) were few who attended
the session on 5th at Jammu University Auditorium. They will be visiting places of
religious, historical, cultural, Jammu city and other places of interest besides
visit to Rasoolpur international border and attending various indoor session an
National Unity and integration. After a week-long stay at Jammu and Kashmir, the
participants have reached Delhi.
Early in the morning the youths visited Rashtrapati Bhawan to meet Hon\'ble President
Smt. Pratibha Patil, where Sh. Mani Shankar Aiyyar (Min. for youth Affairs and
Sports and Panchayati Raj) were also present there. Besides this visit to other
historical places and a recent addition to the glory of Delhi Metro train visit are
the main attraction of visit to Delhi, after which finally, the participants will
proceed for their respective states on 16th February, 2008.
On this occasion Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Khan informed that the delegation will stay here
in Delhi for three days, they will be, inter alia, attending experience sharing
sessions, meeting dignitaries, intellectuals and visiting places of historical and
development importance.
NYKS is working for the rural youth through its various programme in order to
empower the youth in all dimension of life. The ultimate objective of NYKS is to
organise & strengthen the youth at village level and mainstream them with the
process of Development. Also, the objective is to channelise these youth for the
constructive purposes. Presently, NYKS is the only organisation in the country which
has direct linkage of village levels. This mega potential of the organization has
been utilized by almost all the ministries of Centre and State level for the
implementation of various schemes viz., awareness, training or supporting various
beneficiaries programme. Realizing this potential ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of
India during its almost a decade old relationship choose to implement its various
programme viz, North East Cultural Exchange Programme, Tribal Youth Exchange
Programme, J&K Cultural Exchange Programme etc. The present programme is Reciprocal
Youth Exchange Programme for the youth to Jammu & Kashmir in Collaboration with the
Union Ministry of Home Affairs which started from 3rd to February, 2008 and will
continue till 16th February, 2008.
