Press Release Body: Tulum, Mexico. June 2008 For the past two years, EcoTulum Resorts & Spa has been working together with Registered Nurse Nancy Myers to help promote her Give a Toy Get a Smile toy drive for underprivileged children in Cancun. With the help of our guests and staff, we have received enough toys and clothing items to make hundreds of children happy during the last holiday seasons, and we hope to do the same once more. Our aim is to make a difference in the lives of less fortunate children in the Cancun area, helping children from families with AIDS/HIV, schools for children with severe mental, physical and emotional problems, two orphanages, and the children living in the jungle outside of Cancun.
So far this year, over 400 school supplies have been collected, 380 toys have been collected or purchased, and 128 articles of clothing have been donated. The program has also received very much needed blankets for local orphanages and dental hygiene supplies for children. This is only the beginning, and we still have time to do more.
We invite all our visitors to the Cancun-Riviera Maya area to once again put a smile on children's faces by bringing down new toys for holiday distribution. Visitors who will not be able to travel to the area by the end of the year, but who are still interested in contributing may make a PayPal donation online at www.giveatoygetasmile.org, or send a check to Nancy's New York address, where toys will be purchased and brought down for the holidays. No donation is too small.
We ask that toys please be new, not used. The toys needed are just the same as kids anywhere would love, with a few exceptions. Battery operated toys are not requested, as batteries are expensive and are unlikely to be replaced. The children are underprivileged, and may not have electricity, so toys that depend on electricity are also not required. Toys with English instructions are not recommended, as these children speak Spanish. The children range in age from six months to eighteen years old.
We have found that the children seem to like: trucks, dolls, Legos, dominoes, paints, crayons, nail polish, hair ribbons, sports balls, make-up kits, inexpensive jewelry, Nerf toys, pocketbooks, wallets, blocks, stuffed animals, and clothing. We also suggest books (in Spanish), coloring books, and diaries, to stimulate reading and writing.
Any toys received at Cabaņas Copal will be delivered to the organization in Cancun before December 20 to ensure delivery. All toys will be personally delivered to the children and all financial donations will be spent by the organizers on the purchase of new toys. All funds will be audited by an independent 3rd party. EcoTulum invites its guests to help support this cause. EcoTulum Resorts and its staff will also be participating in the program with toy donations.
