Press Release Summary: 67% of small to medium-sized enterprises are not satisfied with their web strategy
Press Release Body: Basingstoke, UK - 2nd June 2008 - Over two-thirds (67%) of small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are not satisfied with the performance of their website, according to a study, conducted by design and web agency The Escape. The research, which surveyed 100 business-to-business SMEs about their online presence, also reveals that 61% don't have a defined web strategy.
The majority of SMEs stated the primary goal of their website is to generate leads (45%), with brand building (22%) and online sales (18%) also a priority. However, while 67% of SMEs are measuring traffic to their website, only half (51%) are measuring the effectiveness of their website in meeting their primary goal.
Craig Killick, managing director of The Escape, commented: "Our study reveals that a high proportion of businesses are lacking a defined web strategy, which is leading to dissatisfaction with the performance of their site. Whether it's generating sales, newsletter sign-ups or encouraging people to get in touch, any website must have a clear business goal, then the appropriate build to fulfil that purpose and the ability to measure its success."
"Lots of companies want to deliver the \'Amazon experience\' online, but a successful web presence takes time and investment. Smaller businesses should start small, be flexible and grow with their success."
The Escape works with small to medium-sized businesses to help them maximise the effectiveness of their website. The company has recently published an e-book specifically for small businesses on how to create quality, optimised web pages.
