Press Release Body: Blandford, England, 14th July, 2008 - Telesoft Technologies today announced availability of SIP-I (SIP with encapsulated ISUP) signalling protocol in its range of product solutions. SIP-I allows full interworking between PSTN and IP networks and significantly extends the range of services that can be supported across packet networks.
Converged networks are central to telecom operators plans to drive down cost whilst aggressively extending service offerings. The SIP signalling traditionally used in an IP network however does not contain the same rich feature set developed over many years for PSTN in the form of ISUP/SS7. To overcome this the ITU developed SIP-I (Q1912.5 Profile C) allowing complete interworking between next generation IP networks and traditional PSTN networks and extend the services that can be offered in the VoIP domain.
Large incumbent carriers, such as BT's 21CN network, are moving from PSTN to IP network backbones in order to converge data and voice networks, increase bandwidth and reduce costs. SIP-I, combined with these low cost IP network infrastructures, allows operators to quickly deploy innovative new local services to their customers with carrier-grade functionality yet take advantage of these reduced costs. Because of its flexibility 3GPP Mobile networks are likely to adopt SIP-I as an alternative to BICC in 3GPP R7.
"Mixed PSTN/IP network infrastructures are now the norm for many operators", said Phil Taylor, Product Manager. "Creating an environment that allows full interworking between domains allows our customers to target new markets and services whilst getting full value from installed equipment".
