Press Release Summary: RSA Vision, the new video lecture strand from the RSA, opens up our prestigious public events programme to new global online audiences. RSA Vision features high-quality video presentations from the world's leading public thinkers. The latest addition to the catalogue of RSA Vision speakers is the eminent US economist, Richard Thaler. Thaler visited the RSA on 17 July 2008 to give a lecture on his new book "Nudge: improving decisions about wealth, health and happiness". "Nudge" has captured the interest of politicians and policymakers on both sides of the Atlantic, and is a must on David Cameron's book list for Conservative MPs during the summer recess. In the RSA Vision video, which is available to watch for free online, Thaler explains the theory and practice of "Nudge", showing how people can be guided towards better choices whilst retaining their individual freedoms.
Press Release Body: RSA Vision showcases the very best in new ideas and cutting-edge analysis of current social, political and cultural issues. The most recent addition to the Vision catalogue is a talk from Richard Thaler, explaining the "Nudge phenomenon" and the theory of libertarian paternalism. Richard Thaler is professor of behavioural science and economics at the University of Chicago. He recently co-authored Nudge: improving decisions about wealth, health and happiness (Yale University Press, 2008) with the renowned legal theorist Cass Sunstein. Richard Thaler came to the RSA in July to give a lecture as part of the RSA's popular series of lunchtime talks, RSA Thursdays. Thaler spoke to a packed auditorium, demonstrating how "choice architects" can structure situations to guide people towards better choices while protecting, or even expanding, individual freedoms.
'RSA Vision revolutionises the RSA events programme for the digital age, transforming it into a rich and widely accessible public resource. The strand features world-class thinkers and emerging new talent' said Alex Lucas, Head of the Public Events Programme at the RSA. Richard Thaler joins a growing catalogue of distinguished international speakers featured on RSA Vision. Among the RSA Vision highlights are talks from Sir Ken Robinson on innovation and education, Steven Pinker on the language of thought and Clay Shirky on the future of social networks. The high-quality RSA Vision videos are available to watch free on the RSA's website: www.theRSA.org/events
