ROTARY CLUB OF CHENNAI VELACHERY RALLY ORGANIZED TO CREATE AWARENESS ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING

Press Release Body: To create an awareness about Global Warming, a rally from the Bethel Matriculation Higher Secondary School was organized in Velachery by the Rotary Club of Chennai Velachery, with the participation of the Interact Club of Bethel 600042, on Friday, 8th August 2008 at 3-00 p.m.
Rtn.K.R.Mukundhan, President of the Club, flagged off the rally at 3 p.m. Rtn. K. Natarajan, Director, Youth Services, Rtn. Mohan, Treasurer, Rtn.Mohan and Rtn.M. Viswanathan, Director -Community Services (Development) and Rtn. Rajkumar led the rally to the Velachery Bus Terminus.
The members of Interact Club of Bethel carried placards with slogans against Global Warming. They distributed the leaflets containing the causes and effects of Global Warming and explained them to the public. They also requested the public to switch off the lights for 8 minutes at 8 p.m. as a symbolic representation against Global Warming.
When the rally reached the Velachery Vijayanagar Bus Terminus, the Interact club members were divided into small groups to distribute the leaflets to the persons waiting for buses, the shops, the policemen, the street vendors and other passersby.
After giving about 1000 leaflets in and around the bus terminus, the Interact club members regrouped into a rally and proceeded to the Sarathinagar area for giving leaflets and creating awareness. Around 4 p.m., the Interact Club members marched back to school and dispersed.
"We have certainly created a good awareness among the general public in Velachery about Global Warming" Rtn. Natarajan later said. "The response from the school students was excellent" added Rtn. Viswanathan.
