Press Release Summary: 2M India established Foundation to screen over 1000 babies per year. Funding is generated through profits and corporate collaborations in US and India! All Tests are conducted in our US lab.
Press Release Body: Dombivili (E), India, September 30, 2008 -- For more than 26 years, Central for Disease Control in the US (CDC's) Environmental Health Laboratory has been the only comprehensive source in the world for quality assurance and proficiency testing involving the testing of newborns for preventable diseases. If these diseases are not accurately diagnosed and treated, they cause mental retardation, severe illness, and premature death in newborns.
Each year, at least 4 million babies in the United States are tested for these diseases, and severe disorders are detected in about 3,000 newborns. In India this is far greater. 1.2 million babies die in India in their first month. Two newborns die every minute in the country (Times of India-24/04/2006).
2M has established a formal relationship with The University of Colorado at Denver Health Sciences Center (UCHSC), (U.S.A.). The laboratory in Colorado is equipped with Tandem Mass Spectrometer that is one of the handful ones in the US. Dr. Stephen Goodman, Director of UCHSC is well known in this field of study and has authored several papers related to newborn screening. He has been at the forefront of research related to Biochemical Genetics. "We are proud to be associated with Dr. Goodman and his team", quoted Mr. Ravi Kulkarni.
Our Newborn Screening can find the following birth defects. Early detection and giving them early treatment prevents serious complications, such as mental retardation, permanent disabilities, or even death.
-- PKU
-- Congenital Hypothyroidism
-- Galactosemia
-- Sickle Cell Disease
-- Biotinidase Deficiency
-- Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia
-- Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD)
-- Homocystinuria
-- Tyrosinemia
-- Cystic Fibrosis
-- Toxoplasmosis
"We are excited about offering this service in India and a growing number of families across the Indian continent who are part of the global economy are lacking these services", quoted Mr. Ravi Kulkarni, Territory Manager of 2M Associates. "As the Indian economy continues to grow the demand for sophisticated services will be on the raise and is an opportunity for companies to open up services that parallels those in the US and Europe", added Mr. Chakravarthi, CEO of 2M Associates, USA.
2M has established sales force to market the services across the major cities in India. A number of collection centers will be established throughout several cities and the samples will be shipped to University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, USA for analysis. Our centers in Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore has been operating for the last 15 months and have served thousands of parents in those regions. "Parents of newborn should get the results in approximately three days and if there is any disorder detected then we have the experts in this field at the Colorado Health Sciences Center", added Mr. Chakravarthi. "The quality of service available in India for newborn screening is not adequate and we are committed to establish a high standard", quoted Mr. Ravi Kulkarni.
"We are excited about entering in to the market in India and glad to be part of the global economy. We expect this partnership to extend highest level of quality service to the Indian community, elevating awareness in this field and providing peace of mind to the parents", quoted Dr. Goodman.
