The Logical Organization A Strategic Guide to Driving Corporate Performance Using Business Intelligence
Auckland, New Zealand. [September 29, 2008] – Gail La Grouw, Managing Director of consulting firm Coded Vision has just launched her first book “The Logical Organization: A Strategic Guide to Driving Corporate Performance Using Business Intelligence”. The book aims to help business managers, consultants and business owners gain a better understanding of the real power behind business intelligence.
With studies showing that over 70% of executives admit that strategy is poorly executed in their organizations and that poor decision making is prevalent, it is no wonder that Business Intelligence is at the top of the list for corporate technology investment around the world.
Business intelligence [BI] is about using insights from analyzing historical data to better predict future business activity. According to Gail, “with the increasing rate of change and complexity of the business environment, managers can no longer rely on intuition and past experiences for making decisions. They must only rely on hard evidence”. Many business managers see BI as a technical capability, yet it is so much more than that, says Gail. “BI is an enterprise-wide change in the way strategy is executed and decisions are made by every person in the organization. Many routine day to day decisions can be automated, releasing individuals to focus on more creative aspects of their job. BI also provides personal feedback on an individual’s performance, and both these factors add significantly to job satisfaction at all levels”.
In the past managers have shied away from understanding technology, but BI is one capability they really need to understand. BI is a proven strategic asset and a definite competitive edge. In today’s tight economy, BI can drive improved profitability in any type of business.
The book is aimed at business users, executives, small business owners, consultants and even BI vendors. It is split into four parts. Part one outlines what BI is and why it is essential. Part two gives an insight into the technology components, but at a level of understanding suited to non-IT personnel, with tips on what to consider when selecting BI solutions. Part three looks more closely at exactly how BI is used in the various functional areas of the business, and across different industries. The final part provides guidelines into how to start and manage a BI program. Most BI books are either very technical or expanded case studies that tell you what was achieved, but not how it was done. The Logical Organization is the first book to cover all aspects of BI, successfully blending technical and business perspectives. It’s definitely a book that will be kept for future reference.
