Press Release Summary: Cyber Space has its own set of rules, but one battle has spilled over into the court rooms of the physical world, involving the Internet traffic of the United States of America.
Press Release Body: This logo was created for Electronic Frontier Foundation(http://eff.org./cases/jewel). See how the eagle is eagerly listening into Cyber Space, while the claws of the bird hold numerous cables which are linked to a secret room.
In Jewel v. NSA, Electronic Frontier Foundation is taking on the giants of the United States, on behalf of AT&T clients.
Congress passed legislation earlier this year, giving telecommunication firms immunity from lawsuits involving spying. This has caused a case to become stalled in the Federal Court, involving AT&T. EFF proceeded to open a second front by holding those participating in, or having authorized a fishing expedition of an ongoing warrantless surveillance dragnet. Millions of regular Americans' emails have been read and copies of communications and records of Internet Traffic are forwarded to a secret room in San Francisco, controlled by NSA.
The list of people being prosecuted include President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, Chief of Staff David Addington, former Attorney General and White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales and others, as well as NSA.
How does a government protect itself from a repeat performance of terrorist attacks such as September 11, without being seen to be just plain nosey parkers? Apart from that, can you think of a more boring job, than reading everyone's emails? Could this fishing expeditions have been the birthplace of the use of 'keywords'?
With a Google page rank of 7, Electronic Frontier Foundation is a site well worth keeping an eye on, as this drama continues to unfold. However, having read all this, it's easy to understand why more and more people are getting out of the Rat Race and considering moving to places like the tropical islands of Vanuatu, in the South Pacific.
