Press Release Summary: Two high school friends end up attending rival colleges and start a fan website to help fund their college educations.
Press Release Body: (Norman, Oklahoma and Austin, Texas) - Ben Lancaster and Jonathan Johnston were great friends in high school. After high school Jonathan (“J.J.” as he’s called) decided to study at the University of Texas and Ben went to Oklahoma University. “Now we’re rivals,” Lancaster said. The rivalry between their two schools and the high cost of their college education got these young men to thinking. Maybe they could harness the power of one of the greatest college rivalries in America to help fund their college educations. So OUorTexas.com was born. The site asks O.U. and Texas fans to show their school spirit in order to see which school’s fans care more about the current students at each university. To “vote,” site visitors click a button and donate for their school. One dollar equals one vote. The site records the votes and the winning side gets bragging rights. Ben and J.J. get college money in return. “We’re hoping all the fans will donate a dollar each. Then Texas will win because Texas has more fans,” Johnston said. “No way,” counters Lancaster. “Oklahoma fans care more. They will give five dollars each and run up the score. Just like they do on the field.” And so it goes – two friends, having fun and probably funding a good deal of their college education at the same time. “It’s the power of the Internet meets the power of the rivalry. It’s a fun way to pay for textbooks, that’s for sure,” said Lancaster.
