Press Release Summary: The Mt. Washington Resort recently named Bonin Architects & Associates to its elite Architectural Guild, which will design custom homes for the Dartmouth Brook Phase of the Resort’s development plans.
Press Release Body: The Mount Washington Resort, Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, recently selected Bonin Architects & Associates, PLLC as a member of its elite Architectural Guild for Phase I of their $1.9 billion development, “Dartmouth Brook”.
The expansion, which encompasses 900 homes and other attractions to be completed by the year 2019, has received permits for the start of 199 energy efficient homes to be built on 85 acres of the Dartmouth Brook development site.
Views of The Mount Washington Hotel and the Presidential Mountain Range inspired the development of Dartmouth Brook, which will be located within walking distance to The Mount Washington Hotel. Other features in the Dartmouth Brook neighborhood will include a pond, small parks, a camping area, scenic overlook and an outdoor pavilion with a fireplace.
Long-term plans include developing the area around the Bretton Woods ski lodge into a “Village Common”, which will have cobblestone sidewalks and include homes, shops, restaurants, and office space. Additional proposals include a satellite college campus, an artist’s colony, and an outdoor adventure outfitter. The last planned phase will include additional homes.
Environmental protection is an integral part of the project, which complements Bonin Architects’ green building philosophy. Particular attention will be given to wildlife corridors, wetlands, and bodies of water. Dartmouth Brook executives are working and collaborating with local, state, and federal environmental agencies to ensure preservation and minimal negative impact on the surrounding acreage.
The original Mount Washington Hotel opened in 1902. The Hotel, an elaborate example of Spanish Renaissance Revival architecture, was the embodiment of new technology, with a steel superstructure, heating system, indoor heated swimming pool, state-of-the-art electricity and its own power plant. The most lavish hotel of its time, The Hotel catered to wealthy guests, celebrities, and three U.S. Presidents. In 1986 The Mount Washington Hotel was named as a National Historic Landmark.
Through a series of ownership changes and property acquisitions, numerous upgrades were made to the Hotel, including two golf courses and the ski area. Today, the Mount Washington Resort includes the Mount Washington Hotel, the Bretton Arms Inn, a restored Victorian Inn built in 1896; The Lodge, suited to family vacations; and The Townhomes, which are fully furnished with full kitchens and fireplaces.
