Press Release Body: Reliance Globalcom today announced the appointment of Mark Thompson as President of its Data Business unit, responsible for all data communications solutions within the global communications group. The Reliance Globalcom Data Business brings together its subsidiaries Reliance Globalcom Limited (formerly known as FLAG Telecom), Reliance Globalcom Services Inc. By combining the three entities under a single business unit, Reliance Globalcom is able to deliver customer-focused managed network and application delivery solutions that leverage a global network with unrivalled reach, depth and breadth. The company offers its multinational, service provider and global carrier clients fully-managed and flexible services, including next generation managed WAN, remote access, security, application acceleration, convergence, data protection and hosting services. Over 1400 enterprise customers and 200 carriers depend upon Reliance Globalcom to manage business-critical network solutions and address complex requirements for their businesses and partners throughout the world.
"When it comes to global business connectivity, conglomerates, MNCs and large enterprises use a variety of technologies depending on geography, departmental policies and the nature of the data carried," said Pauline Trotter principal analyst, Enterprise Practice, Ovum. "The provider that offers an all-in-one solution is very attractive to those customers that have disparate technologies on different parts of their network whether it's Ethernet, IP MPLS, IPL or some combination of all of these transport solutions."
"Mark brings to Reliance's new Data Business unit over a decade's worth of telecommunications experience and an impressive track record leading customer-driven organizations. His knowledge of the global communications market and his direct experience with multinational enterprises will provide Reliance Globalcom with the leadership and expertise required to become one of the foremost communications providers in the world," said Punit Garg, President and CEO of Reliance Globalcom.
The Reliance Globalcom Data Business will compete with AT&T, British Telecom Global Services, Orange Business Services, and Verizon Business, for medium to large MNC customers around the world, serving them directly or through channel partners. The business will also deliver wholesale solutions to carrier customers.
Commenting on his appointment, Mark Thompson remarked: "We are combining three strong businesses -- each a market leader in its own right and a positively disruptive influence in its marketplace, aligning processes and expanding our global reach to create a portfolio of truly unique service offerings that focuses on our customers and their distinct service requirements. These are complementary businesses, which collectively create even more highly-focused, customer-driven solutions that are not limited by network reach, in-country density, or breadth of services. Our goal is to be recognized as one of the top five data communications business by all measures, and I am proud to be leading a company that has the capabilities and expertise needed to achieve these goals."
Mark, age 45, is appointed as President of Reliance Globalcom Data Business and also continues to hold the position of CEO for Reliance Vanco Group Limited.
