Press Release Summary: LLD Specialty Sales of Rhode Island is presenting an online auction for Belcourt Castle of Newport that will feature treats and treasures uncovered during a major clean up project in the stables and attics and around the grounds.
Press Release Body: LLD Specialty Sales is clearing out the stable, attics, and grounds of Belcourt Castle, Newport, RI. We are holding a grand two day Tag Sale Nov. 7 & 8, and in conjunction with this event, we have prepared a small but elite list of objects that will be offered through a special on line auction at AntiquesYes.com.
Belcourt Castle is one Newport's most famous cottages. It was built by Oliver Hazard Perry Belmont (of Belmont Race Track fame) who also married Alva, after she divorced William K. Vanderbilt.
Over the years the Castle, stables and grounds have grown chock-a-block full of everything from household items and antiques to great rarities salvaged from lost Newport mansions such as Chetwode, Villa Rosa, Beacon Hill, and Seaverge, as well as all kinds of architectural goodies from other famous New England buildings.
The current Belcourt owners have never had a sales event since purchasing Belcourt in 1956, and are offering at auction some fabulous items which have long been coveted by the many visitors who tour the property each year.
There is a mansion quality brownstone planter with a foliate-carved plinth, a cement fountain cast as a massive scallop shell held up by mermaids, a set of twelve 18' high polished rose granite columns from Union Station in Providence, complete with hand carved bases and capitals, terra cotta statuary, Indiana limestone, and a bronze church bell dated 1848.
All auction bidding will be done on line at www.antiquesyes.com. Bidding will begin on Sunday, November 2, at 2 pm. Bidding will close, beginning at 9 pm, on Tuesday, November 11.
Auction items can be inspected at the Tag Sale Nov 7 and 8 and you can register and place bids right at Belcourt Castle. Many of the auction items are large and heavy so it is best to plan for handling and shipping before you bid. Contact LLD Specialty Sales for assistance with moving and transportation.
Register now and you'll be ready to take part in the auction. You will also receive auction notices and updates.
At AntiquesYes.com all bidders remain anonymous and all lots have a starting bid with no further reserve.
