The Canadian circus troupe's evolutionary show returns to the Royal Albert Hall

This January the awe-inspiring acrobats of Cirque du Soleil present Totem which returns to the Royal Albert Hall for four weeks, from Friday 6th January to Sunday 5th February 2012, following a record breaking run at the South Kensington venue in 2011.

A global phenomenon, seen by 100 million people in more than 300 cities around the world, the gravity-defying French-Canadian troupe, Cirque du Soleil, turns to the evolution of mankind for its latest spectacular and visitors arriving in London to see the show can choose from a wide range of London hotels listed on LondonTown.com, where there is accommodation to suit every type of traveller, from those on a budget to groups enjoying a family outing.

Renowned Canadian theatre director Robert Lepage is both writer and director of Totem in which he traces the journey of the human species from its original amphibian state towards its ultimate aspiration of flight and space exploration. Every species in the animal kingdom is represented from butterflies to fish, and there's one part where the ensemble performs amazing acrobatics on a gigantic turtle skeleton. The cast performs with precision timing an impressive array of hoop dances, roller skating segments, trapeze tricks, clown acts, Chinese unicycle skits and death-defying trampoline stunts.

The show features dazzling costumes by Kym Barrett – including some of Cirque du Soleil's most extravagant yet – an imaginative set from Carl Fillion and shimmering projections by Pedro Pires. The final scene features photographs of the earth taken by Cirque's CEO, Guy Laliberté, during his 2009 space flight – a truly out of this world experience.

Totem is the Quebec circus company's twenty seventh show in twenty seven years since Cirque du Soleil made its debut in 1984 and visitors to London wanting to see the show already enjoyed by one and a half million people can book a London hotel by going to the website LondonTown.com which provides useful information on events, restaurants and hotels in London.
