For two nights this March Elvis Presley In Concert comes to London to showcase his greatest hits, backed by an orchestra and some of Elvis' concert era bandmates playing live on stage. For fans who didn't get to see Elvis perform in person, these performances at The O2 Arena on Friday 16th March and at Wembley on Saturday 17th March 2012 are as close to a ‘live' show as it's possible to get.
Huge crowds are expected at the concerts with visitors coming from outside London to the ‘virtual' Elvis, cleverly brought back to life through video projections and film footage. If travelling from outside the city, visitors can book a London hotel on LondonTown.com where it's easy to pinpoint the exact location of accommodation using the HotelMap function on the website.
The King is brought back to life through a collection of Elvis' concert performances with virtually all sound removed except for Elvis' vocal. The sound is then edited together with a 16-piece orchestra and some of Elvis' original TCB bandmates from the concert era of his career who perform live to the recording of Elvis' voice.
In this concert members of the TCB (Taking Care of Business) band who formed the core rhythm section of Elvis' band from August 1969 to 1977 are reunited with Joe Guercio, musical director and conductor for Elvis concert shows from 1970 to August 1977 when Elvis made his last concert appearance.
Elvis concert footage for the show comes primarily from material shot for the MGM concert films ‘Elvis, That's The Way It Is', with Elvis performing in his trademark jumpsuit; 1972's ‘Elvis on Tour' which won the Golden Globe Award for Best Documentary Film that year; and from the historic 1973 global television special ‘Elvis: Aloha from Hawaii, via Satellite'. The accompanying double album, Presley's last United States number one pop album during his lifetime, went on to sell over five million copies in the U.S.
The two-hour live concert which has played to audiences worldwide since 1998 returns to London's two arenas – two years after a sell-out show at Wembley Arena – as part of a wider European tour which takes in Zurich, Dublin, Copenhagen, Hamburg and Paris amongst other cities.
