April 30, 2012, 2:51 pm -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Death in Vegas headlines the opening night of the 2012 Camden Crawl, kick starting the May Bank Holiday weekend's musical extravaganza which runs from Friday 4th until Sunday 6th May. A highlight of the London festival scene, the Camden Crawl presents a lucky dip mix of musical talent giving ticket holders the chance to see more than 300 acts across 50 venues in North London .
Music fans hoping to see big name acts – Razorlight, Kasabian and Florence & The Machine have all appeared at the Camden Crawl in recent years – and who want to stay in London for the weekend can do so by choosing from one of the many London hotels on LondonTown.com the website which specialises in providing London accommodation.
The recently announced 2012 Camden Crawl line-up includes The Cribs, Brixton band Alabama 3, Glasvegas, The Futureheads and London 's very own Spector. These well-known bands will play alongside less established ones, giving the Camden Crawl its unique appeal – you never know who the stand-out acts will be, or which special guests will be announced at the last minute. There's a frenetic feel to the festival as music fans flit from one of Camden 's well known music venues to another, these include The Roundhouse, KOKO, Jazz Café and the Electric Ballroom.
Set up by a group of friends who ran small independent labels and were struggling to find venues for their acts, the Camden Crawl festival has been promoting new music talent for over ten years. But in recent years it has expanded its remit to include comedy and art events so this year you can try your hand at screen printing, jive and swing dancing, and making bunting. Other arts events include storytelling, art history in the pub, quizzes, uke-oke (jamming sessions for ukulele players), a fanzine, poster and record fair, and independent film screenings.
2012 comedy highlights include appearances from Abandoman, Frisky and Mannish, Henning Wehn, Andre Vincent, Rufus Hound and Patrick Monahan, the Irish-Iranian stand-up who won Best Newcomer at this year's Loaded Lafta Awards and put in a memorable dance performance on BBC 1's Sport Relief.
Camden Crawl Club nights & DJ's have also been announced, these include Mary Anne Hobbs (XFM) Presents, Mistajam's Speakbox, Urban Nerds, Lift Off, Supa Dupa Fly, Eddy Temple Morris , Moda and Bad Life Presents. And the festival organisers have unveiled their first ever event with broadcaster, SBTV, who will host the afternoon party on Sunday 6th May at the Electric Ballroom featuring new urban talent including Ash, Catch Em, Srcu Fizzer, Mic Righteous, and DJ Melody Kane.
