May 25, 2012, 1:05 pm -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- The Festival of the World is a dynamic, multi-faceted, summer-long festival in celebration of the London 2012 Olympics. From 1 June to 9 September the Southbank Centre will be overrun with artist creations including the UK's largest ever poetry event and an urban beach with a twist.
Although art doesn't seem like an obvious choice to celebrate the world's largest sporting event, Festival of the World was the brainchild of Baron Pierre de Coubertin who believed art could inspire young people in the same way as sport. Many of the artistic displays and interactive exhibits will have a sporting theme and plenty will be aimed directly at children.
