Bloomsbury will host weekend of silly sporting events, sponsored by popular magazine.

-- /EPR NETWORK/ -- The first weekend of July will see an extremely silly precursor to the Olympics in London come to Bloomsbury's Bedford Square Gardens. The Chap Olympiad is to take place on July 7 th & 8 th , featuring all manner of absurd events, designed especially for ordinary members of the public to take part in.

Billed as a celebration of ‘buffonery and sporting ineptitude', and orchestrated by The Chap magazine, the only stipulation for hopeful entrants is that they don't wear sportswear. Rather, the organizers prefer guests to show up in their finery from the roaring twenties – a time when chaps were chaps and ladies were ladies.

Ridiculous events taking place include bike and brolly jousting and the tug of hair (in which a handlebar moustache takes the place of a length of rope). This year's event is taking place over an unprecedented two days, and will include music, dancing, and plenty of Pimms. The event kicks off at midday each day, and tickets cost £30 for the weekend and £20 for the day.

Tickets are available via website LondonTown.com, who are also offering discounts on nearby hotel rooms, to coincide with their ‘Olympics in London' season.

Among the deals on offer, the Grange White Hall Hotel London on Montague Street is only two minutes walk from Bedford Square Gardens, and is offering a 70% discount when booking through LondonTown.com – bringing the nightly rate for a double room down to just £75.

Equally as close, the Bloomsbury Park Hotel London is offering an 86% on a double room, making the nightly cost just £62. The Bloomsbury Park and the Grange White Hall are just two of the hotels available at a reduced rate from the website; visit LondonTown.com to view more, and to find further information on The Chap Olympiad and the 2012 Olympics in London.
