Annual celebration of River Thames will coincide with final day of Paralympics.

-- /EPR NETWORK/ -- The Mayor's Thames Festival, London's annual festival in honour of the city's main waterway, is to return on the weekend of September 8-9. This year's event will be bigger than ever, falling on the final days and closing ceremony of the 2012 Paralympics.

The main event is the evening's procession, featuring a cavalcade of costumed entertainers. The procession, which runs alongside the river through the heart of the capital, culminates in a huge fireworks display. More than a ton of pyrotechnics will explode over the river from Blackfriars Bridge and two river barges, in a ten-minute spectacle that will serve as a final farewell to London's hugely successful Summer Olympics.

The procession runs from Westminster, past Tower Bridge and Victoria Embankment. Food stalls and other attractions will be lined up along the river to service what is expected to be a huge crowd. The Mayor's Thames Festival is a free event.

Helping travelling revelers find affordable accommodation is website LondonTown.com, which is offering discounts on London hotel rooms close to the action. Among the deals on offer, the Crowne Plaza on New Bridge Street is providing a 52% discount on double and twin rooms. The discount brings the cost of a night's stay down to £223.

Just south of the river on Southwark Street is the Holiday Inn Express London Southwark. Around 8 minutes from the main part of the procession, the hotel is offering double rooms at a 76% discount, bringing the cost of a night's stay down to just £59.

Situated on the Strand, just a few minutes walk from the Thames, is the ME London hotel. A luxury hotel, the ME is offering double rooms from £500 per night – a 17% discount on their standard rate.
