Puppetry fans offered discounted hotels in London for weekend of event.

-- /EPR NETWORK/ -- This year's annual May Fayre and Puppet Festival will mark 350 years since celebrated diarist Samuel Pepys first spotted a Punch and Judy show. The famous meeting happened on 9 th May 1662, in Covent Garden, and that date has been considered the birth of Mr. Punch as we know him ever since. The celebrations are taking place on the weekend of the 12 th and 13 th May.

Helping those coming from outside the capital keep their costs down, LondonTown.com is offering a number of discounts on selected hotels in London.

Taking part in the event are puppeteers from all over the UK, as well as dancers, clowns, jugglers and folk musicians. Kicking off proceedings on Saturday morning will be a toast to Mr. Punch, followed by a Grand Procession – led by brass band – at 11am.

After the Grand Procession, there will be a special service at St Paul's, with Mr. Punch himself delivering a sermon. All of the day's entertainment will be free of charge.

Among the reduced hotels in London on offer from LondonTown.com, the Charing Cross hotel on the Strand is offering double rooms from £99 – a 90% discount on the usual rate. The hotel – a Grade II listed building - is just five minutes walk from Covent Garden and has been beautifully renovated to modern standards whilst retaining its original 19 th century elegance.
